Parent/Student HandbookThe purpose of this handbook is to provide new and continuing students with information on tuition fees, school policies, services, and classroom procedures. Please read through this handbook before coming to the first class and keep it as a reference for later. CLASS LOCATION Classes are held at the Frame of Mind, 2201
Younger students should be dropped off no sooner than 5 or 10 minutes before the start of class and picked up promptly after class so that they are not left unattended.
CLASS TIMES All classes meet once per week for eight weeks. MONDAY......................…..... 4:00 - 5:30 pmMONDAY.......................….... 6:00 - 8:00 pm THURSDAY.......................…. 2:00 - 3:30 pm Note: These times are subject to change. Check the local newsletter for current times.
TUITION PAYMENTS The tuition fee is currently $90 and is due the first week of each new quarter. Make checks payable to John Gordon. SUPPLY COSTS The cost of supplies for beginning students is currently $30. This is a one-time fee covering the cost of a 3-ring binder workbook with worksheets and drawing paper, pens, pencils, an eraser, a ruler, and a supply case. It also covers certain in-class supplies, like ink and tempera paint. The student will need other supplies for higher level projects that may be purchased as needed either from me in the classroom if I have them or at an art supply store.
AVAILABLE CLASSROOM SUPPLIES There are a number of supplies available for purchase in the studio. I will tell students ahead of time what materials they will need for upcoming projects. The most commonly needed materials and their current prices are as follows: art book binder-- 3.00 pens------------ 1.50 eraser tips------ .10 grid sheets---- .50 new worksheets- .10 Shading Paper--- .50 pencils---------- .25 rulers---------- .50 drawing paper-- 2.00 kneaded eraser-- 1.00 supply case------ .75 Because younger students often misplace their supplies, it is a good idea for them to keep some extra change in their supply cases so they can purchase what they need in class.
THE AGE COMPOSITION OF THE CLASSES Since all instruction in this program is individualized, there will be a mixture of ages in all classes ranging from age 8 through adult. This allows for maximum flexibility in scheduling and making up classes. It also provides a unique, stimulating, inter-supportive learning atmosphere.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Beginning students will be personally instructed in the following classroom procedures during their first few classes after which they will follow them on their own. 1. Worksheet Practice. Students should enter the classroom, immediately find a seat, and begin working on their drills and worksheet exercises. They are to work only on those worksheets the teacher has previously assigned to them. The number of exercises to be done on each worksheet per practice session is to be found in the assignment section at the top of the page. 2. Worksheet Evaluation. When finished with their worksheet exercises, students should take their work to the teacher for evaluation. 3. Project Work. After evaluating the worksheets, the teacher assigns the student a project and designates a portion of that project to be worked on or a given amount of time to work on it. After doing so, the student returns to the teacher for evaluation. Students work on their project(s) until the end of class.
